Distribution can mean the difference between a sale or a missed OPPORTUNITY. Consider the cost of shipping two identical online products, if the products are priced the same, an offer of free shipping for orders over $25 may make the difference in the customers buying decision. Similarly the option to have a product shipped next day before a holiday may influence a customers decision in the same way.

As with the marketing lesson identifying and UNDERSTANDING your distribution channels is important. Distribution also includes the collection of payment for the use of your product, in this blogging example the product is your content and advertisers pay for display position next to popular content. Advertisers pay you through AdSense which for this example is the collection mechanism and the distribution channel.

Distribution can be unique to the product being sold or the channels its being sold through. For our blogging example we will explore feeds as an additional DISTRIBUTION channel for your content.

Feeds

First lets subscribe to a feed to get you familiar with how they work. You can also use feeds to get ideas on content for your own CHANNELS. Feeds are updated when the websites content is, but unlike traditional web pages you dont need to visit the site to get the content. This is very helpful when you are trying to identify new content ideas for a blogging product.
